The pre-E3 weekend of reveals began with EA showing Anthem, Battlefield V and Unravel 2, among others at EA Play Saturday morning. Other games, like EA’s sports entries FIFA 19 and Madden NFL 19 shared the floor with the company’s bigger names. A breakdown of the announcements follows below.
BioWare’s multiplatform action RPG received a new trailer showing off world exploration and the Javelin exosuits that players can customize as they level up. These exosuits are what give the game its RPG quality, as different types of Javelin armor fit certain gameplay roles. Anthem releases Feb. 22 on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
A new trailer for the next Battlefield dropped, focusing on multiplayer in its World War II setting. The game is playing up its “World War 2 as you’ve never seen it before” angle with the addition of women on the front lines of war, which irked fans for its ‘historical inaccuracies.’ A battle royale mode was confirmed for the shooter, following the precedent set by PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and Fortnite.
Command & Conquer: Rivals
Following up 2012’s Command & Conquer: Tiberium Alliances is the free-to-play mobile entry named Rivals. The game is in its early stages, so no release date has been announced yet.
FIFA, Madden NFL and NBA LIVE 19
The biggest announcement for sports game fans is FIFA 19 holding the UEFA Champions League title. This year’s sports titles are slated for release later this year with NBA LIVE 19 starting releasing June 25. Madden NFL 19 and FIFA 19 launch Aug. 10 and Sept. 28 respectively.
Star Wars Battlefront II and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
Last year’s Battlefront release will get Clone Wars content in an upcoming DLC pack. A date for this pack was not revealed, however.
A new Star Wars game, Jedi: Fallen Order, comes from Respawn Entertainment and promises an original story set after Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. The game has a projected holiday 2019 release date.
The sequel to the 2016 puzzle platformer Unravel was simultaneously announced and released during the EA Play event. This time, co-op play is encouraged as there are two of the original’s main character, Yarny, for players to control. Unravel 2 is available on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
